Abstract

The commemoration of 25 years since the passing away of Ecaterina Fotino-Negru reminds us of her artistic personality and her remarkable work as a pianist and eminent teacher, the one who established new guidelines for a French-inspired school, raising the level of piano education in Cluj to European standards. Ecaterina Fotino-Negru maintained an active career as a piano soloist on important Romanian stages. She also performed in chamber ensembles, alongside outstanding instrumentalists. Her stage appearances cover a broad stylistic spectrum from world, local and especially French music, to the promotion of which she contributed largely. An equally important side of Ecaterina Fotino-Negru`s personality was her vocation as a teacher. The words of some of her students clearly show that Ecaterina Fotino-Negru`s professional interest leaned more towards teaching.
